Special Immigrant Juvenile Status offers a life-changing path to safety, but it carries a strict deadline: the day a child turns 21, this door closes permanently. Prior to 2025, immigrant youth could request a fee waiver when applying for status. But under new rules enacted by the Trump administration in 2025, USCIS now refuses to grant fee waivers: forcing a required $250 government fee on indigent children. Missing this fee payment means instant rejection, locking a young person out of legal status and protection.&nbsp; In partnership with legal aid and immigration attorneys, mBOLDen Change is removing this new barrier by covering the required petition fees.
