Our inaugural filming began in the summer of 2024 and is projected to be released in segments beginning in the summer of 2025. The dancers that we hire will be compensated fairly without worry of discrimination based on pregnancy or childcare needs. Dance was established in 2015 in New York City. Artistic Director Meggie Belisle walked with her mother through cancer and experienced both her pain and resilience throughout those years. As a result of this journey, Mei/Co Dance spent nearly a decade dedicating its work exclusively to individuals and their families who had experienced cancer. Each project and performance utilized a recorded compilation of in-depth personal interviews overlapped with music and live dance to create a short narrative of the individual’s story. Most recently, work has been centralized on the topic of motherhood in the arts; specifically in the world of professional dance. The Mama Project illustrates Mei/Co.Dance’s role as both educator and advocate for the needs of mothers in the performing arts. In summary, the company seeks to be a venue through which life is expressed through art.
