🌟 Continue to Cultivate Wonder 🌟 TYA stands for &ldquo;theatre for young audiences&rdquo; and this year, the TYA Program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa celebrates 55 years. When the program was founded in 1971 by Tamara Montgomery, it was called either &ldquo;Children&rsquo;s Theatre&rdquo; or &ldquo;Family Theatre&rdquo; or &ldquo;Youth Theatre.&rdquo;&nbsp; Our graduates are scattered around the globe &ndash; bringing imagination, creativity, and wonder to classrooms, nonprofits, theatre stages, and more. Many of our graduates transition directly to HTY (Honolulu Theatre for Youth) &ndash; a nationally recognized company that brings professional theatre and drama education to over 100,000 keiki across the islands each year. Despite the longevity of our program, we have had almost no University of Hawaiʻi Foundation support over these decades. As budget cuts continue to loom, we are hoping to change that. This August we are offering a professional production of J.R.R. Tolkien&rsquo;s The Hobbit&nbsp;with five amazing actors playing all of the parts. This is a piece that will require all of the wonder and imagination we can rally. All proceeds from the production will go directly to the newly established University of Hawaiʻi Foundation &quot;TYA Fund.&quot; TYA actively challenges a disembodied childhood of mass entertainment, iPads, and screens by... &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;1.
