<a href="http://www.burritobrigade.org">Visit our website to learn more!</a>Burrito Brigade is based on an idea of abundance. No one should go hungry, and no one needs to go hungry. For the last 10 years, we have distributed 600 burritos each weekend, working to ease the hunger gap that can be especially wide on weekend days when there are limited other services available. That’s a lot of burritos -- but lots of folks were still hungry. In 2020, we opened up Waste 2 Taste and started building the Little Free Pantries. These programs are unique in several ways. ALL are welcome. There are more than 55,000 people in Lane County that are food insecure1, and that includes 1 out of every 4 children2, but food insecurity has a very technical definition. There are thousands more for whom an extra helping allows them to put that money towards something else, easing the stress and anxiety that is all too common for those who feel like they’re just getting by. That’s why we don’t have complicated intake forms or ask for proof of income. There’s PLENTY to go around. We understand the massive impact that food waste has on our planet, accounting for 6-8% of all human caused greenhouse gas emissions. Why not try to solve two problems at once? We divert 3 tons of food every week from the landfill by partnering with local grocers, farmers, and food businesses to stock the shelves for our customers. We see YOU. Whether you’re one of the thousands of folks who get food from us each year, one of our dozens of volunteers who have dedicated over 10,000 hours in 2024, or one of our supporters (and some folks are all three!), we want everyone to feel like they have choices. That’s why we’re constantly working to build new partnerships to bring more culturally relevant food options, expanding the Little Free Pantry locations to new host sites, and even expanding our home delivery option for those who cannot make it to the pantry due to health and mobility issues.
