Q: What is the OPM Flash Dash? 

A: The Flash Dash is an annual fundraiser run by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) of Okemos Public Montessori at Central (OPM). It is the largest source of revenue in the PTO's annual budget, so it plays an essential role in enacting the PTO's mission of supporting the students and teachers of OPM.

Q: How much money is the OPM PTO trying to raise?

A: Our fundraising goal for 2024 is $30,000, which includes a slight stretch over what we raised in 2023 ($28,376.30).

Q: What will my donation be used for?

A: The PTO spends its budget on items that support the students and staff of Okemos Public Montessori. For example, your donation will fund the following initiatives supported by the PTO:

• field trips (bus costs, admission fees, etc.)
• classroom materials
• library materials
• playground equipment
• 4th-grade graduation 
• teacher professional development
• fall festival
• homecoming float
• popscles on the playground
• staff appreciation
• other items requested by the principal, teachers, and support staff of OPM

Each year, OPM PTO spends about $13,000 on classroom and library materials requested by teachers, about $8,000 on support for field trips, about $5,000 on school events, and about $2,000 on staff professional development and appreciation.

Q: How much of my donation will directly benefit the students at Okemos Public Montessori?

A: Every cent. 100% of your donation will go directly to the OPM Parent Teacher Organization. Zeffy takes no administrative fee because it serves only not-for-profit organizations such as OPM PTO. (You will have the opportunity to donate a "tip" to Zeffy at the end of your transaction, but this is entirely optional.)

Q: What are the Flash Dash incentives?

A: Rather than placing pressure on individual students or families to fundraise a certain amount, the OPM PTO adopts a more equitable, team-based approach of rewarding the entire school community as a group when each benchmark is reached. Each incentive celebrates when a specific percentage of our total fundraising goal is reached. If we reach 100%, students and staff will receive ALL incentives. The incentives are as follows:

Upon reaching 30% of our goal: the students will get to make a flash dash galaxy t-shirt in art class

Upon reaching 50% of our goal: glow stick dance party in the gym during school

Upon reaching 65% of our goal: bubble party at recess

Upon reaching 75% of our goal: each family receives a coupon for laser tag at Launch

Upon reaching 85% of our goal: music in the cafeteria during lunch

Upon reaching 95% of our goal: popsicle party at recess

Upon reaching 100% of our goal: in-school presentation by the MSU Planetarium, gift card for arcade play at City Limits East Lansing, and a voucher for a kids meal at Zaytoon's in Lansing.
