Not only are stocks used to help us trim and maintenance hooves, they can be used for dental procedures, hoof and leg soaking due to abscess or injury and examination when movement could cause pain or injury.  Many privately owned horses are trained to pick up their feet and stand quietly (enough) for the farrier and vet. But our gentle giants typically do not come from high quality training backgrounds. They've been "controlled" with fear, punishment and work to exhaustion before being turned over to a sale barn.  In order for us to take good care of them, we need to invest in correcting and healing that poor training and mistrust. However, they also tend to come with us with urgent needs that cannot always wait months for the re-training to take hold. In addition to that challenging background, these guys are just BIG and not many vets or farriers are interested in working with a scared and resistant 2000lb horse. We don't blame them.  Stocks help us bring the horse around for the essential care they need. Unfortunately, such a large and durable piece of equipment created large enough for our special breed of horse is not that common (not something you can get at your local farm supply store. These stocks, pictured above, come in at about $2200 and $850 in shipping. It has some additional accessories to help with our kind of horses that bring our purchase total to just under $3500.  We're very grateful for your support in helping us purchase this essential piece of equipment for the treatment and maintenance of our wonderful herd, and the ones we have yet to rescue!
