Buckland Shelburne Elementary School’s playgrounds are unsafe, outdated, and in desperate need of replacement. We are counting on you - our neighbors, local businesses, and the broader community - to make this project a reality!
Current state of our playgrounds
- Estimated to be over 30 years old
- Current equipment is structurally unsound:
- cracks in foundation
- missing and rusted bolts
- several slides are not compliant with safety regulations
- Significant deterioration poses ongoing risk: six broken bones in a span of six months
- Not ADA accessible and not inclusive for all students and community members
- Only playground in Shelburne and used by wider community in off-hours
Our vision
- Replace all playground structures with ADA-compliant equipment
- Improved surfacing underneath playgrounds to increase safety and accessibility
- Add more swing sets, spinning and ground-level play elements that would greatly benefit children with diverse needs, including those who are neurodiverse
Playgrounds are essential for children's development, building motor skills, social skills, and providing opportunities for problem-solving, motor development, and imaginative play.
