The Cagebirds, a captivating play by David Campton. First performed in 1978. It explores themes of freedom, control, and individuality. The action takes place in a single setting &mdash; a room where several women, each representing different human characteristics, live under the control of the Mistress. Their lives are disrupted by the arrival of the Wild One, who challenges their confinement.&nbsp; The play becomes a study of conformity, manipulation, and the cost of liberation. Themes that are explored by director Claire Gordon and her cast of 8 women in this production nearly 50 years on. Now in a world where social media, AI and the fight to belong and exist continue to be a challenge that enforces a metaphorical cage that can keep women trapped in their own self induced isolation. Sometimes it&#39;s easier to close the door and lock yourself away from the world outside because the cost of freedom seems too great. This short play where 7 women appear caged by the ominous Mistress will be staged in March for International Women&#39;s day as a statement to call to attention the challenges still faced by many women today.
