NITE: Nocturnal Insect Tracking & Education is a group serving the Greater San Antonio Area for people who enjoy observing, photographing, and learning about nocturnal insects attracted to UV lights, also known as blacklights. Many moths and other nighttime insects are as beautiful, diverse, and fascinating as daytime butterflies and dragonflies. Our gatherings provide opportunities to explore this hidden nighttime world while contributing observations to iNaturalist, a community science platform used to document biodiversity. We will host outings at public and private sites, using portable blacklight setups to attract insects for observation and photography. Beginners are welcome, and members can learn about black lighting equipment, photography options, and how to document observations using smartphones or digital cameras.NITE is supported by the Texas Master Naturalist – Alamo Area Chapter, a 501(c) organization dedicated to education, outreach, and service in support of natural resource conservation.
