The Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment (AFIRE) advocates for the rights and empowerment of Filipinos in the U.S. through community organizing, education, and support services, fostering a just and equitable society for all immigrants.

Mabuhay! Meeting

FAHM, ILY! is part of a research collaboration between AFIRE, FYLPRO, and Tayo, and Dr. Rachel Kuo at the University of Wisconsin-Madison focused on intergenerational and diasporic-informed solidarities and political analysis. We are interested in this conversation as part of our overall efforts to engage in the broader movement toward collective liberation. We want to learn directly from our community, and engage in topics of gender and sexuality within and across generations to better inform and impact our work. This event will allow us to co-develop an agenda for queer and trans organizing with the Filipinx/a/o community in Chicago, facilitated in a space where we are encouraged to ask each other difficult questions. It&rsquo;s time we get organized and identify how we will continue to fight for and protect our queer and trans kasamas. Breakfast, lunch, merienda, and dinner will be provided in between sessions. Masks are encouraged and will be available. Location information: Event will be in Color Club&#39;s Tavern Room. Entrance is through the blue door on the corner of Hamlin and Elston. The Tavern is wheelchair accessible and the space has two all gender bathrooms and one accessible bathroom. There is free street parking on surrounding side streets.&nbsp; This collaboration is made possible from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR)&rsquo;s Fall Research Competition Awards and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.&nbsp;

In today&#39;s political climate it is vitally important to support organizations fighting to protect the rights of all people. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.afirechicago.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">AFIRE Chicago</a> is a community organization that creates a political home with and for Filipinos to organize for immigrants, workers, domestic workers, and LGBTQ people. Jess is a member of AFIRE&#39;s Board of Directors. Please join us for an event to raise funds and learn more about the organization&#39;s activities.

Join AFIRE&rsquo;s Domestic Worker Assembly! This gathering aims to bring together Filipino domestic workers (including but not limited to nannies, homecare workers, house cleaners, and personal drivers), their loved ones, and supporters to share experiences, learn about the history of domestic work, and strengthen knowledge on domestic worker issues and rights. At AFIRE, we believe in creating spaces to grow and amplify our voices for the liberation of oppressed people everywhere. Your participation will shape and cultivate an assembly of domestic workers that is grounded in real experiences, collective wisdom, resources, and care. Your voice and presence matter as we continue organizing for dignity, protection, and respect for all domestic workers in Chicago.
