Celebrating 52 Years of Scholarship and Service For 52 years, the Southern Arizona Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have proudly provided scholarships to high-achieving African American young men throughout Southern Arizona. This enduring commitment reflects a steadfast belief in academic excellence, leadership, and community uplift.The scholarship honors the life and legacy of Felix Lee Goodwin, a devoted advocate for minority education who recognized the lack of acknowledgment and support afforded to African American students&mdash;particularly young men pursuing scholastic achievement. His vision was rooted in equity, recognition, and opportunity.Felix Lee Goodwin retired from the United States Army in 1969 as a Lieutenant Colonel, following more than 30 years of distinguished military service. Upon returning to Tucson, he continued his lifelong dedication to service by joining the University of Arizona, where he served as an assistant to three university presidents. In this role, he became a tireless advocate for minority students, dedicating himself to helping students not only access higher education but also successfully complete their academic journeys.Beyond the university, Felix Goodwin served on numerous boards, state commissions, and community organizations. He was also a committed member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., serving as District Director for Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. His leadership and mentorship impacted countless lives across the region.Felix Goodwin devoted a lifetime to service, leveraging his expertise, wisdom, and compassion to help others succeed.
