An Itch In Time - Mangy Fox Rescue is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating foxes suffering from mange and other injuries in New Jersey. We provide safe capture, transport, and medical care to return them to the wild, ensuring their well-being and survival.

Your gift to the Fox &ldquo;Shed&rdquo; Fund supports a safe temporary holding facility for mangy, sick, &amp; injured foxes waiting for transportation arrangements to be made to a licensed fox rehabber or veterinarian.&nbsp;We need to insulate the structure and line it with waterproof plastic panels for ease of cleaning and sanitation. The foxes need to be in a temperature controlled environment, whether extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.&nbsp; This small structure needs to be heated or cooled efficiently and is key for the well-being of the foxes. The structure also needs to be easily cleaned and sanitized to eliminated any spread of mange. Also, like with any animal, pee &amp; poo is always present&hellip; so being able to have non-porous surfaces is extremely important. The lined shed can be easily sanitized without the worry of cross-contamination or smells.&nbsp; Sometimes we catch the foxes in the middle of the night and rehabbers or veterinarians are unable to accept the foxes right away because they are closed, sleeping, taking care of a critical animal, out in the field, etc. Bringing a mangy fox into a&nbsp;volunteers home can be very problematic, especially when other animals (pets) may be in a home. The smell alone of a mangy fox in an enclosed area is something that is quite memorable, and not in a good way.&nbsp; The facility&rsquo;s basement we are currently using is somewhat temperature controlled. The space is large and hard to regulate temperature on extremely hot or extremely cold days. We are extremely appreciative for the space we got to use for the last 3 years. That being said&hellip; unfortunately, the building is being sold and in about 2 weeks we will not have an appropriate place to temporarily hold the foxes unless insulated.&nbsp;The foxes need a clean, comfortable, and quiet environment to decompress before transport to a licensed fox rehabber or wildlife veterinarian.&nbsp; We were fortunate enough that Kathleen, AIIT Volunteer, donated a small window unit Air Conditioner that fits perfectly in the shed&rsquo;s window. So during the late spring to early fall heat, we can cool the shed&hellip; we just need to insulate for efficiency purposes. Come winter, a small heater will suffice with the proper insulation.&nbsp; During their temporary stay, less of 24 hours (with an average 2-12 hour hold), the foxes may receive food &amp; water depending on their needs, a comfortable pillow to sleep on, and a quiet decompression space between field rescue and approved placement to whatever facility they will be going to. We are strictly &ldquo;Trap &amp; Transport&rdquo; and do not provide medical care, nor are we a rehab center.&nbsp; Our goal is to hold them for the shortest amount of time possible and get them to the appropriate resource for their particular case. Our trapped foxes almost always get transferred in to a small to medium sized carrier right away in the field where they were trapped, but in some cases the foxes need to be transferred in a secure location where no escape is possible. The shed will also be used in situations where field transfer is not possible (ie: when someone brings us a fox that is in a trap). The shed would offer a backup contingency in case transferring to a carrier does not go as planned. We use traps with removable back doors for easy transfers. Unfortunately, many homeowners that trap on their own have traps with no transfer door, so it adds a level of complexity to the situation where a fox could get out. We do not like keeping mangy foxes in open grid traps because mange is contagious, the foxes get stressed out more easily, and there&rsquo;s always a possibility of them getting there teeth stuck in the grids of a trap. Plastic carriers with solid sides help reduce the possibility of spider mites crawling elsewhere, and make the foxes more comfortable &amp; safe. The darker it can be in an enclosure, the less stress and anxiety they feel. That is very important to the health and well-being of all foxes, especially those that are sometimes in critical condition.&nbsp; Every contribution helps cover direct costs&mdash;insulation, dry wall, plastic wall panels, plastic trim (molding), silicone, screws, and waterproof floor coating. This specific fund makes sure we do not take donations away from the original needs that keep the rescue running. Anything additional raised above the $1,500 will go towards our mission. 🦊 ❤️&nbsp;
