Art Deco Society Of Virginia

The Art Deco Society of Virginia preserves and promotes the Art Deco architectural style and cultural heritage through education, advocacy, and community engagement, fostering appreciation for this unique artistic movement.

The ADSVA has a private appointment at 11 am with The Valentine Museum to get up close and personal with Art Deco and twenties vintage items from their collection. The visit will be led by Nichol Gabor, the Nathalie L. Klaus Curator of Costume and Textiles and former ADSVA board member. &nbsp;We will gather inside. Parking: &nbsp;There is a small lot behind the building, or they will validate tickets from the MCV patient &amp; Visitor Parking Deck at 1213 E Clay St.

Back Stage at The Valentine Museum

Step into the Jazz Age on this walking tour of downtown Art Deco buildings led by Blake McDonald, architectural historian with Historic Richmond. The one-mile tour route features over two dozen exuberant designs by some of Virginia&rsquo;s most important 20th-century architects. The group is limited to 25 people. If accessible, please bring Bluetooth-enabled earbuds/headphones for an enhanced audio experience. Rain cancels. No refunds unless rain cancels. Meet out front of the Carpenter Theater

Theme: Travel Art Deco Style In our enduring partnership with Wilton House Museum, this year&#39;s Gatsby Afternoon Picnic will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026. This year&#39;s theme will be Travel Art Deco Style. Think about the Golden Age of Travel around that time which included automobiles, trains, ocean liners, and the early days of passenger air travel. Though not required, we of course encourage 1920s and 1930s attire and elaborate picnic displays. &nbsp;Come dressed for the occasion and transport yourself to a simpler time. Entertainment will include:<ul fr-original-style="text-align: start;" style="text-align: start; box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">A very special travel themed photo booth.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">The 1920s traditional jazz of the band Fatback.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">An open dance floor for all guests to Charleston and otherwise dance the day away.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">This year&#39;s contests will feature Best Dressed, Best Picnic Display, Best Pie (with a twist), the Charleston Contest, and a return of the very popular Musical Chairs!</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Self-guided tours of Wilton House are currently being arranged.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Picnic games such as ring toss, croquet, and more!</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Shop at Daisy&#39;s Vintage Closet.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">And of course, the fabulous vintage road warriors of the Old Dominion Model A Ford Club will be in attendance.</li></ul>Rain date is Sunday September 27th.
