Woven Moments: An Embodied Practice

Join us in the Perennial Garden at Olbrich Botanical Gardens on Thursday, August 13, 5:00&ndash;7:00pm for a meditation and weaving workshop with JG Everest, part of <a fr-original-style="" href="https://artlitlab.org/events/neuroarts-festival-at-olbrich-gardens" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">NeuroArts Festival</a> organized by the community curation project,&nbsp;<a fr-original-style="" href="https://artlitlab.org/Lab4" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">LAB^4.</a> There will be 20 spots available. In this free workshop, led by composer and musician JG Everest, participants will have an opportunity to connect with the sounds that surround us in Olbrich&rsquo;s Perennial Garden, and then discover ways to join in the spatial concert happening in nature. We will first orient to the space with a short garden tour, and then practice &ldquo;Deep Listening&rdquo;, becoming more attentive to the spatial aspects of the sonic field. Then we&rsquo;ll learn to play handheld &ldquo;Human Windchimes&rdquo; provided for participants, and practice some simple improvisational movement and spatial scores along the paths and within the garden spaces. Eventually, participants can play their own instruments, too. Workshop participants will be invited to participate in the roving &ldquo;Free Range Orchestra&rdquo; performance during the Sound Garden events on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th! NeuroArts Spatial Sound & Music Workshop

In this workshop, writers will be encouraged to ground in place. We will cultivate awareness of all five senses in Olbrich&rsquo;s Perennial Garden. This workshop includes a walking tour led by an Olbrich gardener. After learning a little bit more about the plants and animals around us, we will write poems inspired by our experiences in the garden. In closing, we will share our work with one another. If participants agree, the artist James Everest will use the poems written during this workshop to inspire the creation of his sound garden.&nbsp; There will also be an opportunity for participants to read their poems live in a poetry walking tour as part of the sound garden event on Saturday Aug 15th at 3pm! Mills Folly Microcinema presents Project Projection Summer 2026, a program of locally produced film and video, Wednesday, July 29, at 7:00pm. Free admission, donations encouraged.&nbsp; Join us for an evening of experimental films, short documentaries, music videos, and animation produced by filmmakers who reside in Madison and Dane County. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Program running time: approximately 80 minutes. A Q&amp;A session with the filmmakers in attendance will follow the screening.&nbsp; The order of the films will be provided in the program notes at the screening. The target running time will be 75 minutes (pending submissions).

Auricle New Music Series is proud to welcome Horse Lords for their Summer 2026 tour on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at 7:00pm. Horse Lords were founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 2010; they evolved from the experimental collective Teeth Mountain and began as a trio with drummer Sam Haberman, guitarist Owen Gardner, and bassist Max Eilbacher, soon adding alto saxophonist Andrew Bernstein to the core ensemble. Though Horse Lords grew out of the fertile Baltimore noise and leftfield rock scene, a storied environment for artists and weirdos that has nurtured many an influential outsider band (Lungfish, Matmos), their approach is more omnivorous than the stippled rhythms of instrumental electric rock would indicate.

When our nation began experiencing abundance for the first time, most Americans couldn&rsquo;t afford basic cake ingredients. Makin&rsquo; Cake is written and performed by Dasha Kelly, author, poet laureate, and creative change agent. Kelly cuts into a cake, revealing what its history and ingredients can teach us about race, class and equity in America.

The performance blends bass clarinet, voice, and analog electronics, moving between composed material and open forms. Acoustic and processed sounds are layered in real time, creating an immersive listening environment that shifts between intensity and quiet, meditative moments.

Auricle New Music Series welcomes Tatsuya Nakatani on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 7:00pm. Tatsuya Nakatani is an avant-garde percussionist, composer, and artist of sound. Active internationally since the 1990s, Nakatani has released over 80 recordings and tours extensively, performing over 150 concerts a year. His primary focus is his solo work and his large ensemble project, the Nakatani Gong Orchestra. He teaches master classes and lectures at universities and music conservatories around the world. Originally from Japan, he makes his home in the desert town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. With his activity in new music, improvisation, and experimental music, Nakatani has a long history of collaboration.

Free admission, donations encouraged.&nbsp; Join us for an evening of experimental films, short documentaries, music videos, and animation produced by filmmakers who reside in Madison and Dane County.
