Mendoza on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 11:00AM-1:00PM at Minyoi Taiwanese Noodles, 5420 N Clark Street, Chicago IL, 60640. Comptroller Mendoza took office on Dec. 5, 2016, serving the last two years of Judy Baar Topinka&#39;s term. She was reelected in 2018 and 2022. Mendoza is the first Hispanic independently elected to statewide office in Illinois. Since becoming Comptroller, Mendoza has transformed the office, opening the state&#39;s books and giving citizens a better view of state finances. Comptroller Mendoza used the power of the office to pay down the state&#39;s backlog of unpaid bills, and Illinois now pays bills faster than the private sector. Taking office amid a budget impasse, she immediately shifted the IOC&#39;s priority to funding nursing homes, hospice centers, schools, and the state&#39;s most vulnerable citizens. Comptroller Mendoza has been an advocate for stability and predictability in state finance, comprehensive budget solutions, and open and transparent financial reporting, winning accolades from agencies that rate the state&#39;s bonds. Bohao Zhang is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Chicago, Illinois. He holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Indiana University and began his career in the pharmaceutical industry. The COVID-19 pandemic sparked a profound shift, which inspired a career transition into the counseling field to address the emotional and psychological societal impacts.Currently in private practice, Bohao specializes in providing a space for his clients to be heard and supported while they work towards success in their daily life, particularly those within the male and Asian-American communities. He began in 1993 while on an exchange program from the University of Chicago to Waseda University in Tokyo, training with Waseda University Aikido Club, which met on campus and at Hombu Dojo under Hiroshi Tada Shihan. Returning home, he trained with the late Don Levine Sensei at the University of Chicago Aikido Club until graduating with a B.A. In East Asian Languages &amp; Civilizations in 1995. Levine Sensei introduced Dwight to Chicago Aikikai, which has been his Aikido home ever since, excluding two short breaks, one to manage an Aikido Club at the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC). He credits his approach to Aikido to Marsha Turner Sensei (Chief Instructor, Chicago Aikikai), Joe Takehara Sensei (founding member, Illinois Aikido Club/Chicago Aikikai), and the late Kevin Choate Sensei (Chief Instructor, Chicago Aikikai, 1981-2011). He began practicing karate in 1989, and in 2012 founded Shobu Karatedo, a community-based dojo located at Ravenswood Fellowship UMC, as the Chicago branch of the Okinawa-headquartered World Matsubayashi-ryu (Shorin-ryu) Karatedo Association. A direct student of Art Takashi Ishii since 1998, Matsunaga espouses the values of respect, mutual benefit, cultural awareness, and personal growth as guiding principles in his practice and teaching.
