Augusta Community Sailing promotes sailing as a means to foster community engagement, personal growth, and environmental stewardship. They provide accessible sailing programs for all ages, encouraging teamwork and a love for the water.

Discover the basics of sailing with Augusta Community Sailing ⛵ In this introduction to sailing course you&#39;ll learn how a sailboat works and get hands on practice.&nbsp; What to expect 🌊Our US Sailing certified instructors provide a full day of training on the water at the Augusta Sailing Club on Clarks Hill Lake (Lake Strom Thurmond).&nbsp; You&#39;ll quickly be out on the water, rigging, steering, tacking, and jibing. You&rsquo;ll come away with knowledge and experience in the basics of sailboat handling. &nbsp; Consider inviting a friend to sign up too and join in the fun. Classes are small, so you get plenty of personal attention.&nbsp;

Set sail with us for two focused days of adult sailing on April 25&ndash;26 ⛵ Whether you&rsquo;re new to the water or returning after a break, you&rsquo;ll learn core skills in a relaxed, supportive setting. This two-day beginner sailing class will involve a combination of classroom, land, and on-the-water instruction. Guided by our US Sailing certified instructors, you&rsquo;ll practice rigging, steering, basic navigation, and safe boat handling while building confidence on the water.&nbsp;Please be aware that sailing is a physical sport requiring agility and enough upper body strength to pull yourself out of the water and onto a boat. If you have any concerns, please let us know.Please bring the following with you:Coast Guard approved life jacket (inflatables and orange horse collar vests are not appropriate)closed toed water shoeswater bottle and lunchhat, sunglasses with cord, and sunscreentowel and a change of clothesBy joining this session, you help Augusta Community Sailing keep our programs accessible for the whole community. Your gift equips new instructors to teach safe, confident sailing on Clarks Hill Lake. You help youth and adults earn nationally recognized certifications and bring hands-on boating safety to people stepping onto a dock for the first time. Donations support instructor training scholarships, course fees, and on‑water teaching hours for Augusta Community Sailing programs like Spirit of America youth boating, high school sailing, and adult classes. Every trained instructor means more neighbors on the water, learning to sail safely and feeling welcome in our local sailing community.

Support Instructor Training for Sailing and Water Safety

Augusta Community Sailing is buying new Sunfish sailboats, the boat that has taught more Americans to sail than any other design.&nbsp; This is the boat that carries our summer. Every year, sail camp is where these boats work hardest, a full fleet on the water at once, kids learning to steer, to capsize and recover, to come back in grinning and soaked. And through the season, they&#39;re the boats our sailing community can rig up and take out on a good afternoon. Our Sunfish fleet has aged past the point where it can carry that load. Ten boats is a full camp session, which means more people on the water at once. Every boat funded here is owned by ACS &mdash; a registered 501(c)(3) &mdash; and dedicated to community instruction, youth programs, and scholarship sailors. Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We&#39;re raising $20,000&nbsp;to put the full fleet in the water for the spring 2027 season. ACS is debt-free and community-funded, and we intend to stay that way: these boats get bought when they&#39;re paid for. Gifts are restricted to the purchase and outfitting of Sunfish sailboats for Augusta Community Sailing. If contributions exceed what the fleet requires, the ACS board will direct the surplus to fleet safety, maintenance, and instruction.
