In 2011, Austin, Texas and Angers, France became sister cities. Intrigued by the new connection, a delegation of event producers came to SXSW to network and explore possible partnerships and Austin Angers Music was born. Since that first Spring, Austin Angers music expanded to encompass many elements of the creative industries including film, food & wine, tech and education. Our partnership continues to develop relationships and exchanges with musicians, chefs, directors and businesses. In addition to the creative exchanges, this relationship has fostered the development of Levitation France, Austin Psych Fest’s first European festival, and the formation of the French American Business Council of Austin. In September 2015 a mayoral delegation as well as a team of Texas musicians, chefs and entrepreneurs traveled to Angers to celebrate the 2nd Annual “Austin Week”, this event marked the beginning of our annual exchange and this November, we will welcome the Angers delegation for the “Angers Days” to showcase French artists, entrepreneurs, and sports teams to the Austin community.For the second year, a young ambassador of Austin lives in Angers, and we are in the process of welcoming the first Angers ambassador in Austin. Their role is to foster friendly relations and promote understanding between people of Austin and Angers.
