Hello Bay Area Stage Patrons! Wanted: Audience Members with a Sense of Humor!Breaking News! A dangerously funny night at the theater awaits you with The 39 Steps! This side-splitting, fast-paced comedy-thriller features four actors, over 100 characters, and more laughs than a detective at a clown convention. The 39 Steps is a lighthearted and comedic take on the original story, with actors portraying a 1930s troupe trying to recreate the movie on a modest stage. The actors master various dialects and characters, changing costumes and wigs frequently, creating a whirlwind of comedic energy!  The actors play numerous roles, ranging from overbearing matrons to menacing double agents, contributing to the play's zany and fast-paced nature. The play is based on John Buchan's 1915 novel and the 1935 film, but it deviates from the original story, introducing new characters and plot twists. Like the original story, the play explores the theme of an innocent man mistakenly accused of a crime and having to clear his name, a common theme in Hitchcock's work.  Watch as our hero, Richard Hannay, is falsely accused of espionage and goes on the run faster than your Wi-Fi during a Zoom call. So “Froggy,” before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English.
