He suddenly developed severe pain and swelling in his right leg. His son rushed him to the hospital, where doctors discovered a major blood clot and dangerously limited blood flow.Rick underwent emergency surgery, including a double fasciotomy on his right calf, leaving him with numerous large incisions. His condition was so serious that doctors were faced with the possibility of amputating his leg.He was transferred to Trinity Health in Grand Rapids, where the vascular team fought to save his leg. They performed bypass surgery, running a graft from his right shoulder down to his right leg to restore blood flow.Rick survived.But the fight wasn&rsquo;t over. &nbsp;After returning home, Rick spent months recovering. He eventually returned to work on light duty, determined to keep moving forward. Unfortunately, his recovery was complicated by another blockage and, later, a serious MRSA infection in his right leg that resulted in another hospitalization and surgery.Through all of this, Rick has continued to persevere. &nbsp;He has always been a hard-working man. He never planned on becoming disabled. At just 60 years old, he expected to continue working until around 70 and had never imagined he would suddenly be unable to work and dependent on a wheelchair.He applied for Social Security Disability in April 2026 and is still waiting for a decision. &nbsp;Right now, we have an opportunity to help him with something much more immediate. &nbsp;We are raising money to purchase a safe, sturdy metal wheelchair ramp for Rick. &nbsp;A ramp may seem like a simple thing, but for Rick, it means freedom.**It means being able to get out of his home safely. &nbsp;**It means being able to get to medical appointments without someone having to struggle with him and a wheelchair. **It means being able to get outside, visit friends and family, attend events, and have some independence again.After everything Rick has endured, he shouldn&rsquo;t have to feel trapped inside his own home simply because he can&rsquo;t safely get down the steps.We&rsquo;re not asking for luxury. We&rsquo;re asking for a way out.Rick has spent his life working, providing, and taking care of himself. He never expected to need help like this. Now it&rsquo;s our turn to help him.Any donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to getting Rick the ramp he needs.
