Black Women In Ecology Evolution And Marine Science Inc

BWEEMS empowers Black women and gender-expansive individuals in ecology, evolution, and marine science through community building, networking, and professional development, aiming to increase representation and support in environmental sciences.

Belonging & Beyond: Fueling Science Through Community Science is stronger when everyone has a place in it. Yet for many Black scientists, the path through evolution, ecology, and marine science can feel isolating and full of bureaucratic, financial and cultural barriers. BWEEMS exists to change that. We ensure Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive scientists feel welcomed into their fields, then nurtured and supported to go beyond the barriers. Belonging & Beyond

Finding your next opportunity is easier when you know what possibilities exist—and when you have a community helping you find them. The BWEEMS Virtual Job Fair brings Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive people together with organizations working across ecology, evolution, marine science, conservation, environmental science, research, government, education, consulting, natural resources, and related sectors. Participating organizations will introduce attendees to their organizations and the work they do and help illuminate career pathways across the environmental and scientific workforce. And you don't need to be actively job searching to participate. This is also a space to discover organizations and careers you may never have considered, meet people doing interesting work, better understand the skills employers are seeking, expand your professional network, and begin building relationships that could shape your next step.Whether you're an undergraduate wondering what you can do with your degree, a graduate student or PhD exploring your next move, an established professional looking for something new, or simply curious about what else is out there, you belong in the room. Come explore. Ask questions. Make connections. See where your science can take you.

This event will bring together researchers, educators, nonprofit and government professionals, scientists, students, community leaders, and others connected to ecology, evolution, marine science, conservation and related disciplines. She is a Public Policy Manager in Sustainability at Uber Technologies. In this role, she advances global policy to expand access to electric transportation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shared transportation. Prior to Uber, Dr. Jackson was at The Nature Conservancy for 8 years where she served as the Ocean Policy and Plastics Lead, advancing global policy initiatives to reduce plastics pollution, restore coastal marine habitats, and promote sustainable fisheries management. Common Ground: Oakland is part of BWEEMS’ broader effort to build stronger regional networks and will create space to meet other professionals and students in the Bay Area, exchange resources and career opportunities, learn about BWEEMS programs and free membership, and discuss how BWEEMS can better support members in the region.
