Blue Ridge Consort

Blue Ridge Consort celebrates Appalachian music through performances that honor traditional and contemporary folk songs, fostering community connection and cultural appreciation in the heart of the Blue Ridge region.

We are delighted to take the stage on Saturday, October 10 at 1:15 pm at the First Baptist Church of Asheville as a part of the annual conference of the North Carolina chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. We will present selections from My Spirit Loudly Sings and will be joined in performance by our friends in Wilmington Voices and Vox Bellator, the treble choir at Cane Bay High School in Summerville, SC. This event is free and open to the public!

We open our fourth season with My Spirit Loudly Sings on Saturday, October 3 at the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. This program was inspired by the people and the musics of Appalachia - we’ll be returning to arrangements of old favorites like Old Joe Clark, Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair, My Heart’s in the Highlands, and I’ll Be On My Way. We’re also excited to explore and proud to present new arrangements of folksongs, sacred songs, and hymn tunes like This Old Hammer, Pretty Saro, and Bright Morning Stars. This program will stir the heart, delight the mind, and invigorate the soul.

Our second program of the 2026/27 season is Out Under the Sky, which will be held on Saturday, December 5 at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church. Winter and the holiday season provide such marvelous opportunities for music-making, and we are excited to present music by such beloved composers as John Rutter, John Jacob Niles, and Walter Ehret alongside Western art music legends like Hildegard von Bingen and modern voices like Roderick Williams, Jocelyn Hagen, and Reena Esmail. Out Under the Sky features both old favorites and new works that will delight our guests!

Our final program of the 2026/27 season will be a full performance of Gioachino Rossini’s great masterwork Petite messe solennelle on Saturday, May 8 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. This work will feature an incredible quartet and soloists from amongst our membership as well as our exceptional collaborative artist Tate Addis. Additionally, we are delighted to be joined by Dr. Jonathan Emmons at the organ. We are delighted to make our first visit to the Piedmont Triad to conclude our fourth season and to present this incredible 19th Century masterpiece!
