Music gives voice to our joy, brings comfort when words fail, and reminds those who have been told they don't belong in church that they have a place here.At Cathedral of Hope, music isn't simply part of worship. Music is ministry.Our Music Ministry is Cathedral's largest volunteer ministry. Through the Sanctuary Choir, Cathedral of Hope Orchestra, Voices of Hope & Band, Harmony of Hope, and Cathedral Bells, musicians give their time and talent to lead worship, celebrate sacred seasons, and carry our message of faith, hope, and love far beyond our walls.And the people making the music find something themselves: community. They rehearse, worship, celebrate, and grieve together, building friendships and finding purpose and belonging.They come to make music. The story of Evelyn Pruitt is truly one of faith, hope, and love.At the height of the AIDS crisis, Evelyn witnessed thousands of people in our community suffering, struggling, and dying. She understood that compassion required more than words. She took action.Evelyn created the Evelyn Pruitt HIV/AIDS Assistance Fund to help people living with HIV/AIDS meet some of life's most basic needs, including rent and utilities.Decades later, the needs have changed, but Evelyn's mission of caring for the whole person continues.Today, the fund helps HIV-positive members of the recovery community who are struggling with addiction access treatment programs, recovery resources, and stable housing as they work to rebuild their lives.These needs are deeply connected. For people living with both HIV and substance-use disorders, unstable housing can make it significantly more difficult to begin and remain engaged in HIV treatment. Research has also found that housing interventions can improve HIV treatment outcomes. Recovery takes courage. But courage alone isn't always enough.Sometimes someone needs a safe place to sleep.Sometimes they need help getting into treatment.Sometimes they simply need someone willing to say, "We believe your life is worth fighting for."Through the Evelyn Pruitt Fund, Cathedral of Hope continues to say exactly that.Evelyn saw a need and responded.
