Youth Sewing Class Fall 2026
Welcome to Youth Sewing Class Join us for Chama Valley Arts Youth Sewing, a hands‑on class designed to build confidence and foundational sewing skills.Guided by Facilitator Jeanette Hammond-CrayThis two‑hour session introduces students to sewing machine operation, basic maintenance, and essential safety practices. Students will learn how to replace a needle, wind and thread a bobbin, and properly thread the machine. Instruction also includes safe use of scissors, pins, safety pins, seam rippers, and irons. Use of the seam ripper and iron will require permission and direct adult supervision.Students will explore different types of fabric, practice reading simple sewing patterns, and develop skills that lead to completing small projects. By the end of the class, they’ll learn how to sew buttons and create items such as clothing pieces, stuffed animals, pillows, and more.About Chama Valley ArtsThis class supports our mission of cultivating creativity, learning, and community through arts and culture. Open to beginners of all backgrounds, we create a patient, inclusive space where kids can explore fabric, color, and design at their own pace.
