Chronic Pain Project

The Chronic Pain Project empowers artists with chronic pain to share their creations, fostering community and reducing isolation through art. We facilitate connections between artists and community through shared experiences and creative expression.

The Chronic Pain Project (CPP) views art, created by those with chronic pain, as a form of communication and community building. Our art creates an exchange between artist and viewer, that can enrich the lives of both.&nbsp;&nbsp; This group makes space for artists to share their creations with other artists. &nbsp;Sharing art with the general population is our core mission, but sharing art between the artists themselves builds community and decreases isolation. You do NOT have to enter your work in our exhibit to participate in these sessions.&nbsp; Through facilitated online groups, artists can share a recent creation and tell the story behind the piece.The facilitator will do their best to create a safe place for sharing and creating community.&nbsp; A few notes before joining.&nbsp;1. This workshop is a great place to share and find common experiences, but it is not therapy.&nbsp;2. The workshop is a place to share art inspired by pain, but it&#39;s not a self-help group.3. Feelings brought up by the art are great, but this is not a place of artistic criticism.4. It is a place to build community and decrease the isolation inherent in chronic pain.5. This session will NOT be recorded to encourage honesty and sharing.&nbsp; Photos of art can be digitally submitted up one day prior, to the facilitator prior to the group so that they can be compiled for sharing online.&nbsp; To keep this a small and intimate conversation, only 10 people will be able to participate. If you have participated in this group before, but do not have new art to share, you are welcome to join and engage.&nbsp; Everyone is invited to participate. We suggest a $10 donation. If you can do more to help out others, please do! If $10 is not in your current budget, we&#39;ve got you! Chronic Pain Art Workshop This is a hands-on workshop where individuals can explore their chronic pain through a guided art experience.&nbsp; Attend this workshop to explore and express your unique experience. Carve out some time to relax and create art! Leave with your own collage art piece and a stronger sense of community and self-understanding.&nbsp; The workshop location is fully accessible and some dexterity friendly supplies will be available. If you need anything else to participate, please reach out.&nbsp; About the Facilitator Gina Nelson from Nurture 3 Healing &nbsp;is an artist and a healer. From an early age she longed to be a light in the darkness for her own journey and for the journey of all seekers. Ceremony and ritual are a powerful part of her practice and teaching. &nbsp;She is dedicated to supporting mothers and women regain balance when the connection between and mind and body get misaligned. Her work focuses on the opportunities for healing that arise when our bodies, hearts and minds call out for our attention in a variety of ways. When we give &ldquo;voice&rdquo; and priority to exactly where we are in the moment of our lives, a sense of realignment, clarity, awareness, compassion and integration begins.&nbsp; Led with care and respect, our time together centers comfort, choice, and community. Facilitator Bio: Alexis Rehrmann is a writer and editor who has pursued the connection between story and healing throughout much of her creative and professional life. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Portland Monthly Magazine, PDX Parent, the Intima Journal of Narrative Medicine and Anastomosis, Stanford University School of Medicine&rsquo;s humanities and literary journal. She is on staff at the Lewis &amp; Clark College Center for Community and Global Health and on the board &nbsp;of the Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative. &nbsp;She holds a CPA in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University and a BFA in Theatre from NYU, Tisch School of the Arts.&nbsp;</div>

Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Portland Monthly Magazine, PDX Parent, the Intima Journal of Narrative Medicine and Anastomosis, Stanford University School of Medicine’s humanities and literary journal. The Chronic Pain Project: Making the Invisible Visible (A Narrative Medicine Workshop)

The Chronic Pain Project (CPP) views art, created by those with chronic pain, as a form of communication and community building. Our art creates an exchange between artist and viewer, that can enrich the lives of both.   This new offering makes space for artists to share their creations with other artists.  Sharing art with the general population is our core mission, but sharing art between the artists themselves builds community and decreases isolation. You do NOT have to enter your work in our exhibit to participate in these sessions.  Through facilitated online groups, artists can share a recent creation and tell the story behind the piece.The facilitator will do their best to create a safe place for sharing and creating community.  A few notes before joining. 1. This workshop is a great place to share and find common experiences, but it is not therapy. 2. The workshop is a place to share art inspired by pain, but it's not a self-help group.3. Feelings brought up by the art are great, but this is not a place of artistic criticism.4. It is a place to build community and decrease the isolation inherent in chronic pain.5. This session will NOT be recorded to encourage honesty and sharing.  Photos of art must be digitally submitted, one day prior, to the facilitator prior to the group so that they can be compiled for sharing online.  To keep this a small and intimate conversation, only 10 people will be able to participate in this first group.  Everyone is invited to participate. We suggest a $10 donation. If you can do more to help out others, please do! If $10 is not in your current budget, we've got you! If you are experiencing a serious crisis due to your chronic pain, please seek medical attention via 911 or 988 for mental health issues.
