Your participation supports ASL-centered curriculum development. Benefits go to Washington School for the Deaf and Oregon School for the Deaf student clubs! Join us for an open house introducing a new Deaf-centered after-school program for TSD students and their hearing siblings! This program will provide a welcoming space where K&ndash;12 commuter. students can learn, connect, create, and grow together. Join us for SIGNMARK&rsquo;s Community Presentation at TSD&nbsp;&mdash;an accessible event centered around Deaf culture, language, and equity. Learn how Marko&#39;s journey into music in Finland led him to touring the world sharing his music. *Meet and Greet with Photograph and Autograph time after the presentation* FOR CEUs:TSID is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities. This General Knowledge program is offered for .3 CEUs at the little/none Content Knowledge Level. Experiences of Deaf Identity and Culture through Music: Lessons from Signmark&rdquo; is an educational presentation exploring Deaf identity, Deaf culture, representation, language, and leadership through the lived and professional experiences of Signmark, an internationally recognized Deaf artist. The session examines how music, performance, and visual communication can be used to challenge assumptions about Deaf people, strengthen cultural identity, and promote greater understanding of Deaf-centered perspectives.Through personal narrative, examples from Signmark&rsquo;s career, and discussion of his work in Finland and internationally, participants will consider how cultural identity, access, advocacy, and representation intersect within professional and community settings.By the end of the activity, participants will be able to:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Describe ways Deaf identity and culture can be expressed through music, performance, and visual communication.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Identify barriers and assumptions that can affect Deaf individuals in creative, professional, and community environments.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Explain how representation and Deaf-led leadership can influence access, inclusion, and cultural understanding.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Reflect on how these lessons may inform their own work with Deaf, hard of hearing, and DeafBlind individuals and communities.</li></ul>Biography:Signmark (Marko Vuoriheimo) is an internationally recognized Deaf artist and advocate from Finland whose work explores Deaf identity, sign language, culture, accessibility, and representation through music and performance. He brings extensive international experience as a performer, presenter, and Deaf cultural advocate. Texas Statewide Deaf Recovery Luncheon Connect in ASL. Recover Together. Deaf Advocates of Central Texas invites you to a statewide Deaf-led gathering centered on connection, support, and recovery. This luncheon will bring together Deaf people in recovery, individuals affected by addiction, supportive family and community members, and professionals serving the Deaf recovery community. Together, we will share a meal, build connections, exchange resources, and strengthen recovery support in ASL.Whether you are beginning your recovery journey, have been in recovery for many years, or want to support someone you care about, you are welcome. Saturday, November 7, 2026 12:00&ndash;4:00 p.m. Austin, Texas Additional information about the venue, program, accessibility, and accommodations will be shared with registered attendees.
