Capital Campaign – Start & Finish Infrastructures
Spirit Mountain is entering an exciting new chapter with the replacement of the Gandy (B) Chairlift, a critical component of the terrain used by our athletes. While this project improves operations and public access, it also directly impacts essential infrastructure that supports the competitive success of Team Duluth and our broader ski racing community. To continue providing high-level training and racing experiences, Team Duluth Alpine Club is launching a capital campaign to raise $65,000 for a new dual-purpose starting shack, two new finish shacks, and timing wire infrastructure—vital components to ensure our mountain remains a certified and functional race venue.🏔️ What’s Changing — and Why It Matters- The lift replacement will remove the current starting buildings used on Gandy Dancer (#6) and Bear Paw (#5).- A new combined starting shack is needed to serve both race hills efficiently, with power, heat, and timing integration.- The existing finish building at the base of the lift will be permanently removed, requiring the construction of two entirely new finish shacks to support races on Hills 5, 6, and 7.- Team Duluth's timing and communication will require replacement based on the timing shacks final locations.- These improvements are essential for maintaining FIS and USSS homologation, required to host sanctioned regional and national events.🧊 What Your Gift Supports- Construction of a dual-purpose, heated starting shack at the top of Hills 5 and 6 and two finish shacks to support all three race venues- Replacement of critical timing infrastructure- Execution of the homologation process to re-certify Spirit Mountain as a sanctioned race venue- Coordination with Spirit Mountain and contractors to ensure these needs are met during lift construction🏅 Team Duluth's Impact by the Numbers- 45+ years of partnership with Spirit Mountain- 160 youth athletes in 2024–25, training 3–5 days/nights per week- Host of NJRS, High School, USSA, USCSA, Midwest Masters & FIS-level events- Over 2,000 athlete competition days annually- Up to 750+ racers and families brought to Duluth each winter through USSA races and the Atmore FIS event🙌 How You Can HelpWe’re asking our community—families, alumni, local businesses, and ski racing supporters—to contribute to the Infrastructure Fund.
