At the Center for Conscious Living & Dying (CCLD), we believe that death can be a sacred, loving, and community-held experience. Since 2021, we’ve welcomed individuals at the end of life into our three-suite Sanctuary, where they receive round-the-clock, heart-centered care and unconditional presence—often the kind of love they may never have known—at no cost to them or their families.Our model is intentionally intergenerational—young adults, elders, and people of all ages show up together to witness, serve, and be transformed by the beauty of this shared threshold. Through this, we remember that death is a human event—woven into the fabric of family, community, and life itself.This movement began when hospice physician Dr. Aditi Sethi left her palliative care practice to honor the final wish of Ethan Sisser—a young man with terminal brain cancer who longed to die in community. That intimate and transformational experience gave birth to CCLD and became the subject of the award-winning film The Last Ecstatic Days—now streaming on Netflix and premiering on PBS this August.The film has touched hearts around the world and sparked a rising call to bring this radically loving model of end-of-life care into new communities. Proceeds from art sales are shared in different ways—some go entirely to the artists, some are split between artists and Emberlight, and some fully support Emberlight’s mission of providing compassionate, community-centered end-of-life care at no cost.
