LXCL:The Friends of the Greensburg &amp; Decatur County Animal Shelter is dedicated supporting the Greensburg-Decatur Co. Animal Shelter in their efforts of rescuing, protecting, and finding homes for abandoned animals. While the county handles a new shelter build, The Friends aim to furnish it and fill it with the amenities and equipment needed to run daily shelter operations smoothly and efficiently.

The future of animal welfare in Decatur County is bright.&nbsp; The Decatur County Commissioners are leading the development and construction of a new animal shelter facility that will better serve homeless pets and our community for years to come. While the building itself is being funded and managed by the County, the Friends of the Greensburg &amp; Decatur County Animal Shelter is raising funds to help equip the new shelter with the furnishings, equipment, and amenities needed to make it a truly welcoming and functional space for animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors. Bernie came into the shelter as a dumped stray during a time when the shelter was under quarantine. A foster placement stepped up, allowing the kitten to bypass the shelter and go directly into a loving home. The foster parent quickly fell in love with the kitten and says the kitten has even helped lower her stress level. The kitten was born with anal stenosis, a congenital condition that causes narrowing of the anus and can make it extremely difficult and painful to properly relieve itself. The foster parent has already paid out of pocket for the kitten&rsquo;s medical care and recently reached out to ask for help with the cost of a $2,900 surgery needed to relieve the kitten&rsquo;s pain and improve its quality of life. On July 22, 2026, the foster parent took the kitten to a medical appointment, where the decision was made to perform the surgery that same day.&nbsp; We have seen amazing things happen when our community comes together to help animals in need, including providing assistance with necessary surgeries and medical care. We are now asking for your help in raising funds to assist this foster parent with the cost of the kitten&rsquo;s surgery.&nbsp; Every donation, no matter the amount, can make a difference and help ensure this kitten receives the care it needs to live a happy, healthy, and pain-free life.
