In 2018, Gainesville Area Rowing found a home in a building that a local church had generously used for decades as Sunday school classrooms and a youth center. It wasn't designed to house ergometers, weight racks, or the daily grind of competitive athletes — but it was what we had, and we made it work. Since then, our rowers have done something remarkable: they've kept getting better and the results are amazing:

Consistently recruited by college teams

Qualifying for national teams

Racing at Worlds (U.S.A. took silver)

Despite the challenges of training in a space with outdated windows, no reliable climate control, aging floors, and equipment held together by persistence more than by parts. We're not asking for a facelift. We're asking for the basics our athletes have earned: a floor that's safe to train on, a building that holds temperature through a Florida summer and winter alike, and equipment that keeps pace with the effort our kids already put in every single day. These athletes have proven what they can do with almost nothing. Imagine what they'll do with a facility built to support them.

Help raise funds to increase the Head Coach/Rowing Director salary. We are trying to raise funds to increase the salary paid to the Gainesville Area Rowing Head Coach. The salary has remained flat for 3 years with no cost of living increase. To be competitive with other rowing clubs our size, we need to be paying around $55-60,000, which is $20 - $23k more than we currently pay. The donations will be kept in a fund that can be used as needed to retain or recruit a head coach who is meeting the metrics of the position description and club. We have 3 families that have joined together to match donations up to $10,000 for the coach salary pool with the ability to adapt it to immediate needs, if required. If the club can raise $13,000, combined with the matching funds, that means $23,000 will be in the salary fund. The use of these funds will require approval of the GAR Board, by simple majority, to allocate according to this guidance. If extreme financial circumstances exist, the GAR Board may reallocate the funds to cover the cost of operation. For this to occur, the vote must be unanimous. To maintain a high-quality coaching staff, the GAR Board has advised that we provide a salary increase. Moving forward, the goal is to have the salary fully covered by the operational income.
