Sometimes it is our friends who know us best, who we confide in the most and stand beside us through our struggles. Yet as closely as we listen to and try to understand others, we can only truly see their life through the lens of our own experience. This piece examines the bonds of close friends, ones that care for and help each other, just not always in the way that is needed. There are maybe times where (even subconsciously) our personal worries overly impact how we offer support, and our best intentions might fall flat. Through movement, poetry, theatre, and live music, it reflects on what it means to hold on, and what it takes to let go. The piece emerged from a research journey through Kalarigram, temples in Kerala, and Kalighat Kali Temple. In searching for Kali: the goddess of power, destruction, and fierce motherhood, the artist found that none of the forms encountered matched the one she was seeking.&nbsp; From this absence, a personal Kali was created, giving rise to the voice of a daughter who questions, yearns, and seeks comfort from a mother who is both powerful and vulnerable. Kismet with Kali invites audiences into a space where myth meets memory.
