Georgias Old Capital Heritage Center at The Depot Inc

The mission of Georgia’s Old Capital Heritage Center at The Depot, Inc. is to identify, interpret, preserve,  and communicate the history and cultural and artistic heritage of Milledgeville and the Oconee River basin through our educational programs.

Spend a summer evening painting in the garden of the historic Brown Stetson Sanford House during our Summer Garden Party. Guests will enjoy a vase painting activity, refreshments, music, and access to the historic home and grounds.🎨&nbsp; Whether you come with friends or enjoy a quiet creative evening, the Garden Party offers a relaxing way to experience one of Milledgeville&rsquo;s most beautiful historic sites.🌼

Whether you&rsquo;re a seasoned artist or just looking to try something new, this guided painting experience is perfect for all skill levels. For $25 per ticket, guests will enjoy a complimentary glass of wine along with all painting supplies and step-by-step instruction. Spend the evening unwinding, getting creative, and soaking in the atmosphere of one of Milledgeville&#39;s most unique historic spaces. Grab your friends, bring your creativity, and get ready for a fun night of art, history, and good company! 🎨🍷 Thank you for supporting our mission, your participation in events and programs is invaluable.

Paint and Sip

Join us for a special evening at the c.1825 Brown Stetson Sanford House at the &ldquo;Welcome Home the Stetsons&rdquo; Reception on Thursday, June 25 at 5:00 PM. This reception marks the homecoming of newly installed portraits of Dan Stetson and Edith Stetson, whose family transformed the former Brown Hotel into their private residence in the mid-19th century. The restored oil portraits are now displayed in the Music Room, where guests will have the opportunity to meet with a historian sharing stories of the house, its architecture, and the families who called it home. Admission is $25 and includes a tour of the house along with refreshments served in the garden.&nbsp;

Walk the grounds of what was once the largest mental institution in the world. The history filled walking tour will start and finish at the Central State Hospital Museum, located at the old train depot-storehouse on the grounds of the hospital. Haunting History Tour at the Georgia Lunatic Asylum

Voices of Heritage will showcase three uniquely Milledgeville stories of Black leaders through the art of storytelling. 🎙️ Join us as a gifted storyteller brings to life the histories of Sallie Ellis Davis, &nbsp;Lisa Cook, and Joe Ingram. 🎟️This free, family-friendly event&nbsp;offers an engaging way to explore local history and celebrate the individuals who shape our community. Guests are also invited to visit the Central State Hospital Museum, where exhibits highlight the history of one of Georgia&#39;s most significant institutions, where the Peyton Cook and Joe Ingram buildings are found. 🍿Free popcorn will be available while supplies last. Bring your family, bring your friends, and experience the stories that continue to connect Milledgeville&#39;s past and present.
