Volunteer of the Year: Community Impact Award

Every child deserves to experience the joy and excitement of Christmas morning. Through HandsOn River Region’s Christmas Clearinghouse, we partner with local self-sufficiency programs and community agencies serving existing clients to identify children and families who need a little extra help during the holidays. By coordinating assistance across our community, Christmas Clearinghouse helps reduce duplication while connecting families with generous sponsors and donors who want to make Christmas brighter. Last year, Christmas Clearinghouse helped provide Christmas assistance to approximately 600 children across the River Region. This year, our goal is to raise $60,000 to help 600 children experience the joy of finding something special waiting for them on Christmas morning. As part of WSFA 12’s Day of Giving, your donation to HandsOn River Region helps provide Christmas gifts for children who may not otherwise be sponsored through our Adopt-A-Family program.

2027 MKL Days of Service

🤝Every day, 2-1-1 connects residents across South Central Alabama with essential community resources when they do not know where to turn in difficult times. On February 11, 2027, HandsOn River Region brings that connection to life through National 2-1-1 Day, featuring the Alabama Possible Poverty Simulation and Community Connection Roundtable. Together, these experiences help participants better understand local needs, strengthen connections among residents, service providers, businesses, and community leaders, and increase awareness of 2-1-1 as a trusted starting point for help.
