Harlem Swings Inc preserves and promotes the legacy of Lindy Hop in Harlem through education and community events, ensuring that the joy and spirit of this iconic dance continue to thrive for future generations.

🌟 Join us in Creating Change! 🌟MissionHarlem Swings Inc provides a diverse and vibrant local Lindy Hop and Swing dance scene to the community of its birth, Harlem New York. We engage with communities of color by sponsoring younger dancers and dancers of limited means with quality programming and affordable pricing both through programs in the New York City Public Schools, and community based Lindy hop dance and history learning programs. &nbsp;We share Harlem&rsquo;s rich Lindy hop dance heritage with all ages, colors, races, cultures, genders, and orientations through festivals and dances locally and internationally. Goals*To provide presentations, demos, dances and ongoing lessons taught or produced by recognized Lindy Hop instructors who are accomplished teachers and dancers as well as community role-models*Make Social Dance education accessible despite social barriers or financial hardships to all participants year round.*Provide 2 teachers for each lesson when possible; male and female instructors (as Lead and Follow role-models) to encourage men and women, boys and girls to dance.*Produce community ambassadors for Lindy Hop culture in Harlem, New York BenefitsThe positive psychological, emotional and physical benefits of children and young adults who are able to express themselves through dance and music have been well documented. &nbsp; In addition, the benefits of learning a dance form created in ones own backyard with positive social interaction, community heritage and a fun environment often produces amazing outcomes.Here are just a few: *Physical exercise that is fun and benefits overall health&nbsp;*Helping youth connect to their community&nbsp;*Promoting inter-generational dance appreciation*Jazz appreciation&nbsp;*Sense of pride and responsibility&nbsp;*Building teamwork skills&nbsp;*Positive &amp; respectful social interactions*Decrease in stress and behavioral problems*Improved grades*Contagious happiness! For example, covering youth program expenses and travel for juniors and Lindy Hop elders, sponsoring a competition or class and creating opportunities for African American dancers to attend. The International Lindy Hop Championships&rsquo; mission&nbsp;is to respect and honor the spirit of Lindy Hop by hosting a well-organized international weekend featuring the highest-level competitions, performances, social dancing and cultural programs, and to celebrate our roots in the historic Harlem neighborhood.
