HOPE Therapeutic Riding Program enhances the lives of individuals with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy, fostering healing, growth, and empowerment in a supportive environment with a dedicated herd of therapy horses.

HOPE's Whidbey Fair Raffle 2026

Caring for the HOPE Herd is one of the most important things we do here at HOPE. Without them there would be no program. This is no ordinary herd of horses. Many in our herd have lived full lives before they even come to be a therapy horse, often this the reason they are so well suited for the job. They have been loved, had good experiences and probably some not so good. Once in our care these exceptional equines are treated as the precious commodity they are. Their calm, patient demeanor puts our riders at ease and help to aid in the healing process. Maintaining their health is of the utmost importance, it allows them to continue doing the job they love as long as possible. This often includes but is not limited to, hoof care, vet care, body work, supplements, medications, high quality feed and chiropractic care not to mention we also need to board our entire herd until we have our very own HOPE property to house them.  A majority of funds that HOPE receives goes toward this care and we continue to educate ourselves in order for this care to evolve with our horses as they age. We try to allot a minimum of $5000 per horse per year but anyone that is familiar with equine care knows that often we exceed this amount. We are so grateful for the support we get from the community to take the best care of these horses possible.
