Lead Instructors: Maria Larkin & Graham Bolkema Coaches will learn the progressive steps needed to teach both basic and advanced mountain biking skills, experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders. Taught by NICA-certified skills trainers. Required for NICA coach license level 2 and level 3.This course will be completed in two phases: 1. Online via NICA Education Center (45min) Please complete the online "OTB 101 Classroom" course accessed through Pit Zone "Go to Education Center" prior to taking this in-person training. 2. In-Person Outdoor Class (3 hour outdoor course that includes a Field Guide)You must complete outdoor and classroom courses* to receive full credit for level 2 or 3 Certification. *If you are just attending for CEUs you do not need to repeat the online OTB 101 Classroom. Please dress appropriately for the weather. This is a skills instructional course and not a "ride"; you will be standing as a group for instruction and riding for the skills portion. Prerequisite Reminder: You must have previously completed OTB 101 to enroll in OTB 201On-the-Bike Skills 201 is the second level of mountain bike skills instruction for NICA coaches of student-athletes. Coaches will learn the progressive steps needed to teach both basic and advanced mountain biking skills to student athletes. On-the-Bike Skills 201 continues with progressive skill development and further resources for coaches to manage more advanced practice activities for growing teams. The key objectives for this training are:Reinforce effective teaching methodology and skills instruction techniques;Introduce progressive skills required by riders of varying age, maturation, ability level, and goals;Provide the coach with practice activities to reinforce student-athlete skill development; andFacilitate the creation and use of a progressive practice plan for student-athlete skills development and team activitiesOn-The-Bike 201 is a 5 hour course for NICA coaches looking to enhance their coaching skills and add to their coaching toolbox. We will go over progressions for the OTB101 skills and add ratcheting, trackstands, small circles, switchbacks, rock dodge, and front and rear wheel lifts. We will also go through games and activities to do with your team and allow time for collaborating and sharing ideas with each other.Please dress appropriately for the weather.
