117 Day Back 2 School Essentials for Detroiters + Free Chromebooks & STEM Robotd
Since 2009, The 117 Coalition, formed between Famabiff Lodge No. 33, Acacia Lodge No. 39, and Jimmie Lunceford Lodge No. 45, all chartered under the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan, has worked together to provide charity in various fashions throughout the Metro Detroit area. Starting in 2023, as part of their annual 117 Family Fun Day, 117 has distributed school supplies to help families get off to a great start for back to school. For this year’s cookout, 117 will distribute school supplies, along with free STEM kits and laptops in order to help battle the tech divide in Detroit neighborhoods. In Detroit, a significant number of families face technological disadvantages. 38% of homes lack any Internet connection, and 63% of low-income households do not have in-home broadband access. Additionally, 70% of school-age children in the city do not have Internet access at home. 117 will attempt to assist at least 50 families with a free laptop, STEM, and school supplies for the upcoming school year at our annual 117 Family Fun Day.
