These panels are then donated to low‑income families and community institutions, providing clean, reliable, and cost‑free power. In doing so, we reduce household energy burdens, strengthen local resilience, and prevent perfectly functional equipment from ending up in landfills—advancing both environmental sustainability and energy justice across the renewable sector.The Kind Sun Initiative is a New York-based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that recovers decommissioned solar panels and redeploys them to power schools, cultural institutions, and communities facing energy insecurity.
