LXCL:KOI Institute serves as an educational, training, and community research resource, utilizing the arts and cultural organizing frameworks, methodologies, and tools rooted in kapwa -- shared humanity -- to foster community engagement for transformative change.

Participants of the Arts Healing Across Communities project will share original performances, poetry, storytelling, visual arts, movement, and creative works developed through months of integrated arts workshops, dialogue, and artistic exploration. These powerful presentations reflect journeys of grief, resilience, identity, healing, and collective strength. Following the showcase, stay for a joyful Community Celebration honoring Asian American Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness Month, and the May birthdays of Amalna-KOI members and supporters &mdash; featuring food, music, dancing, and fellowship. Arts Healing Across Communities uses performance, storytelling, ritual, and participatory theater to transform grief into resilience and isolation into solidarity. Rooted in the Filipino philosophy of Kapwa &mdash; shared humanity &mdash; this initiative invites Illinois communities into powerful spaces of reflection, healing, and collective engagement. Participants will learn to create viral memes, video reports, and Facebook campaigns to highlight issues such as gun violence, racial tension, poverty, and human rights violations in their communities.&nbsp; Workshop 2: Kapwa and Courage: Theater of the Oppressed (August 1, 6pm - 9pm / Aug 2-3, 10am - 6pm CST)<span fr-original-style="color: rgb(42, 44, 41); font-weight: 700; font-style: normal; font-kerning: none; --Ys-XuQ: none;" id="isPasted" style="color: rgb(42, 44, 41); font-weight: 700; font-style: normal; font-kerning: none; --Ys-XuQ: none; box-sizing: inherit;">This workshop training is tailored for youths, educators, artists, and organizers. It explores the intersection of Kapwa Psychology, insights from Maria Ressa&rsquo;s book, &ldquo;How to Stand Up to a Dictator&rdquo;, and Theatre of the Oppressed within Filipino resistance history. Rather than asking communities simply to cope, HEARTH creates opportunities for people to participate, create, heal, lead, and care for the places they call home. HEARTH is Amalna-KOI&rsquo;s five-year initiative rooted in a simple belief:&nbsp; Earth Health is Mental Health.&nbsp;When we care for the Earth, one another, and the places where we belong, healing becomes possible. Why HEARTH. Why NOW.Our communities are carrying multiple burdens at once: economic uncertainty, social isolation, environmental stress, and growing anxiety about the future. Yet within these same communities are creativity, knowledge, resilience, and a deep desire to make a difference. HEARTH begins there.
