MALAMA KA'U FOUNDATION

Malama Ka'u Foundation is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the natural and cultural resources of Ka'u, Hawaii, through community engagement, education, and sustainable practices that honor the land and its heritage.

Three (3) hurricanes in less than six (6) weeks&nbsp;took a lot from our community, but it did not take our aloha. This season, we are bringing Christmas to the keiki of Kaʻū. Our families are proud and they are resilient, and they are also tired. Christmas is expensive even in a good year. Operation Xmas: Kaʻū Keiki&nbsp;lifts that weight for a moment. Your gift provides toys, essentials, and culturally rooted activities for keiki who are still living inside the recovery. Every contribution stays in Kaʻū, supporting local families and the volunteers who mālama our children and our home. One hundred percent of your gift goes directly into the hands of the children impacted by Hurricane Lala. Operation Xmas: Ka'u Keiki

My father made the drive.&nbsp;Three hours round trip from Kaʻū to Hilo or Kona, three days a week, because the southernmost district in the United States has one two-lane highway and not one dialysis chair.&nbsp; Dozens of our kūpuna (elders) are forced to make this drive, many unable to drive themselves. This is what rural America lives with when healthcare is always somewhere else.&nbsp; Before my father passed, I promised him no family in our rural community at the southern end of Hawaiʻi Island would go without care. This drive is about placing one dialysis chair in our own hometown, and then the next one. Every dollar you give puts life saving treatment within reach of our kūpuna and brings my father&#39;s promise closer to being kept. Mahalo!
