The Muslim Community Network empowers Muslim New Yorkers through advocacy, education, and community building. They aim to secure a permanent cultural center in Manhattan to foster civic engagement, youth leadership, and coalition work for justice.

This year feels historic for Muslim New Yorkers. New York City has its first Muslim Mayor. January marked the inaugural Muslim Heritage Month. And after four years of searching, MCN is on the verge of securing a permanent home in Manhattan&mdash;a space we will own and be proud to call our own for generations to come. Coming Full Circle There is something divinely poetic about where we&#39;re gathering this night.Judson Memorial Church was MCN&#39;s first home. In the aftermath of 9/11, when Muslim communities in New York faced fear, backlash, and isolation, Judson opened its doors to us. It became the place where MCN was born&mdash;where we held our first programs, built our first relationships, and proved that Muslims belonged in this city&#39;s civic life. Since then, MCN has moved through leased offices, rented spaces, and temporary arrangements&mdash;always borrowed, never owned. We&#39;ve served 10,000 New Yorkers annually from spaces that weren&#39;t truly ours. We&#39;ve grown our work across all five boroughs while operating from places we could be displaced from at any moment. We&#39;ve built power without owning the building. Until now. After years of searching, we&#39;ve secured $4 million in government funding and identified our permanent home in Midtown Manhattan. We are $1.5 million away from closing the deal and opening the doors to a space we will own.And this night&mdash;our last iftar before claiming permanent ownership&mdash;we return to where it all began. Why the 16th Day Matters Ramadan is a time of reflection, generosity, and community building. The 16th day represents the middle of our blessed month&mdash;a moment to pause, assess how far we&#39;ve come, and recommit to the work ahead. MCN is at exactly that point. We have raised $4 million in government capital funding. We have identified our permanent space in Midtown Manhattan.We are $1.5 million away from closing and opening the doors.
