The Northern New Jersey Sanctuary Coalition advocates for immigrant rights and provides support to those facing deportation. They aim to create a welcoming community by promoting justice and safety for all immigrants in New Jersey.

2026 &quot;Welcoming the Stranger&quot; Award🎉&nbsp;Come join us in honoring Amy Torres, Executive Director of NJAIJ, for her leadership in defending immigrants at this time of intense attacks on new Americans.This year, NJAIJ led the passage of the historic Immigrant Protections Package that bans 287(g) agreements between police and ICE; safeguards NJ agency data from federal immigration enforcement; and establishes critical security policies for sensitive community locations.&nbsp; &nbsp;Raised in a tight-knit immigrant family in West Texas, Amy&rsquo;s drive for justice is deeply personal. As a leader, Amy is anchored by the Filipinx value of &#39;kapwa&#39;&mdash; a sense of self through others, and an unbreakable interconnection and responsibility to one&rsquo;s community. Music by Fogo AzulWe are excited that Fogo Azul (fogoazulnj.com) will be performing at the gala. Fogo Azul is a women-led samba reggae drumline rooted in Afro-Brazilian traditions. And yes, you&#39;ll be able to dance! Poetry by Kasai Sanchez&nbsp;We are delighted that Teaneck poet Kasai Sanchez will be joining us. Kasai&#39;s writing explores identity, intimacy, justice, faith, and power. Her work centers on racial justice, gun violence prevention, youth leadership, and community-based policy change.&nbsp; Catering by Al Basha Restaurant&nbsp;And once again, our gala will be catered by the amazing Al Basha Restaurant in Paterson, serving Palestinian food.
