Meals of Hope is simple: we walk into a restaurant and buy somebody's meal. Why? Because people need hope — hope that humanity hasn't turned totally rotten, hope that somebody still cares enough to buy them a meal.Just ask Gertrude. In Franklin, Tennessee, we bought several people's meals, and an older woman walked up, put her arm around David, and asked: "Who told you that my husband died yesterday?" Nobody had told him. Nobody. Later, she wrote us: "Dear Mister Hill, you think that you bought me a meal, when that meal was not what you bought me. You bought me a renewed faith in humanity. You bought me hope. You bought me love. You bought me compassion. You lifted an old woman's heart full of despair to feeling like she was the most blessed old woman on the planet. And if anybody wonders if the Meals of Hope matter, it mattered to me."With the meal comes a little card. It says: "The act of kindness shown to you today was given in hopes that you would pass it on. I challenge you to do one act of kindness once a week for 52 weeks. One spark can start a fire." And the card works — we've found that when we give somebody a One Spark card, over 90% of people pass the kindness on; without a card, it's less than 40%. Gertrude took that challenge, and asked us to mail her more cards. That's what your gift buys: a meal, a card, and hope that doesn't stop at one table. The amounts are only suggestions — never a minimum. If you have $5, give $5 — it will be put with somebody else's spark, and together it gets the job done. Every dollar given here stays in the Meals of Hope bucket at One Spark Foundation. One Spark has no paid employees — 100% of the money goes to the cause. One Spark Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 27-1799429, and your gift is tax-deductible. With gratitude, from the One Spark team
