Paititi Institute is a Peru-based nonprofit working with Indigenous nations of the Amazon and Andes to protect ecological lands and support ancestral schools where elders and children transmit living cultural knowledge in daily continuity.

We are extending our ancestral school initiative from the Yahua tribe in the Amazon rainforest to the Q&rsquo;ero nation high in the Peruvian Andes. This new school will serve Q&rsquo;ero elders and children, preserving living wisdom for future generations. The initiative is dedicated to the memory of our beloved Q&rsquo;ero elder, Pampamesayoq Juan Gabriel Apaza Lunasco, who passed in 2024. High in the sacred mountains of the Andes live the Q&rsquo;ero people, often referred to as the last living descendants of the Inca. For generations, they have carried profound spiritual and ecological knowledge rooted in direct relationship with Pachamama, Mother Earth. But like many Indigenous nations, the Q&rsquo;ero face increasing pressures from modernization, migration, loss of language, and the erosion of cultural continuity. Over the past years, through our work with the Yahua tribe in the Amazon rainforest, we have witnessed what becomes possible when elders and children are brought back into living daily continuity.&nbsp; The Yahua Ancestral School now stands as a place where knowledge is transmitted not as performance for tourists, but as lived responsibility. We are now extending this same model to the Q&rsquo;ero nation. This initiative was inspired and blessed by our dear elder, Pampamesayoq Juan Gabriel Apaza Lunasco, who walked with us generously and shared his heart with humility and strength. His passing in 2024 marked the end of a physical presence, but not the end of his lineage. This ancestral school in the Andes will honor his life by ensuring that Q&rsquo;ero children grow up connected to their elders, language, cosmology, land stewardship practices, and rites of passage.
