Using old scrapbooks and diaries housed in the Endicott Museum, Executive Director Dr. Debra Dyer will talk about the people as well as the stories of the Union-Endicott Room, the EJ boots that were found in the foxhole at the World War II Battle of the Bulge, and many other items discovered in the museum. Lunch begins at 12pm, program will start at 12:30pm. &nbsp; Guests can choose from a boxed lunch provided by Clines Catering. The lunch choices are ham and cheese on marble rye or turkey and cheese sandwich on Italian, with pasta salad and dessert. &nbsp; Coffee, tea, soda, or water provided. Lunch and Program is $20.00Program only is $10.00 Reservations for boxed lunches must be booked by September 8th. History Hour Lunch Edition

About the speaker: Mark Burdick was born in Carbondale, PA, but moved to Hawleyton in the Town of Binghamton when his Dad got a job at IBM. &nbsp;Mark and his wife Sharon have lived in Endwell since 1992. Family vacations to historic destinations on the east coast as a child in the 1970s piqued Mark&#39;s interest in history, while his paternal grandfather Newton sparked his interest in genealogy with a little book he distributed to his family called &quot;The Lineage of Dorance Billings Burdick,&quot; written by Newton&#39;s cousin. &nbsp;As a result of all this, Mark is currently a member of the Mayflower Society and President of the Binghamton Chapter, Empire State Society, Sons of the American Revolution. Over the last 6 years, the Binghamton Chapter SAR has become involved in obtaining grants for and installing roadside markers around Broome and surrounding counties. &nbsp;The plaques are part of the William G. Pomeroy Foundation / Empire State Society, SAR &quot;Patriot Burials&quot; program, which honors Revolutionary War veterans who are buried in the cemeteries identified by these markers. &nbsp; There are eight of our roadside plaques in Broome, nine in Chenango, four in Delaware and three in Otsego County, with more in progress, including eight researched by students in SUNY Oneonta&#39;s Cooperstown Graduate Program. &nbsp;You may have seen some of them in your travels around the Southern Tier.

Stitched Together: A History of the Norwich Knitting Co and Walt Disney Long before Hollywood became a global merchandising empire, a small manufacturer in Norwich struck a deal that changed the entertainment industry forever. &quot;Stitched Together&quot; reveals the fascinating, untold history of how the Norwich Knitting Company partnered with a young, struggling Walt Disney to launch the world&#39;s very first Mickey Mouse apparel. The author will share how an industrial pioneer kept his business afloat during the height of the Great Depression, bringing a pie-eyed cartoon icon straight from the silver screen into the fabric of American homes. Join us for an intriguing journey through the secret alliance that helped save a local workforce while birthing modern Disney merchandising. About the author/presenter: Christian Vischi graduated with a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in English and communications from the State University of New York at Potsdam, with dual minors in jazz performance and French. Upon graduation, he was recruited to a locally owned newspaper with both daily and weekly publications. He quickly assumed the editor&rsquo;s chair of the weekly Gazette and then transitioned to a regional editor position for a large daily paper in New York&rsquo;s North Country. After two years he returned to Central New York, spending five years each in municipal government administration, in communications at the Upper New York Conference of The United Methodist Church, and Clear Path for Veterans, a veterans&rsquo; services organization supporting service members across 33 counties in New York. After three years at a global, private, for-profit manufacturer of materials science, Vischi joined the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Colgate University as assistant director. He is the chairperson of the Campus Venture Initiative, a certifying body for student ventures to operate on-campus, and a member of the Colgate Hello steering committee, which strives to create a culture of welcome, access, community, and development for all employees. Vischi is a certified master gardener, USASBE Social Entrepreneurship certified, and a privately contracted graphic designer.

History Hour

The story of the American Revolution is often told through military victories, declarations, and political change. Yet, beyond the battlefields and meeting halls, women across the colonies were also experiencing the Revolution at home. This talk examines the wartime letters exchanged between women and their husbands to explore what life looked like on the home front in Revolutionary New England. These intimate writings reveal how women sustained households, adapted to shifting responsibilities, and coped with long stretches of separation while their husbands were away at war. In their letters, women wrote candidly about their struggles, fears, and frustrations about life at home. In doing so, they shaped their husbands&rsquo; decisions, advocated for their families&rsquo; needs, and gained new influence in their marriages. By centering these experiences, this talk paints a fuller picture of the American Revolution as not only the cornerstone of our national origin story, but also a deeply intimate and profoundly human one. About the speaker: Alyssa Frysinger recently earned her M.A. in History from Binghamton University, where she specialized in early American women&rsquo;s history. She currently volunteers at Phelps Mansion Museum, leading tours and researching local history. Her previous internship at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum included research on the All-American Girls&rsquo; Professional Baseball League, which she recently presented in Cooperstown.&nbsp;

Developing Your Psychic Ability

Climb aboard the Trolley and come celebrate National Carousel Day with us. &nbsp;We will visit 4 of the 6 carousels. Collect a card at each stop and claim your carousel circuit button at the last stop. &nbsp;On board guests can participate in trivia questions as we venture between destinations, and we will discuss the history of each carousel at each location. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lunch or snacks as we will take a break at one of the parks during the afternoon. Tickets are $25 per person and limited to 28 guests. So come take a spin, or 2 on Broome County’s historic carousels. Space is limited so book early!&nbsp; Important to note: The CFJ carousel is closed for this year and at the current time the carousel at Ross Park Zoo may or may not be ready by July 25th. &nbsp;There is always a chance that a carousel may not be operational on July 25th.&nbsp;

4th Annual Speakeasy

Explore the Phelps Mansion Museum after dusk, and discover the Gilded Age&rsquo;s attitude towards death &amp; mourning during a special lantern-lit tour. Through each room, participants will learn about superstitions, funeral customs, and post-mortem photography at 191 Court Street in Binghamton. Mark Twain once referred to death as &ldquo;the impartial friend&hellip; the immortal who treats us all alike.&rdquo; For those in the late 19thcentury, this impartial friend tended to visit with staggering frequency. This caused people to develop its fair share of the macabre such as photographs of the dead, hair wreaths, stories (e.g. Shadows from the Walls of Death), and did three knocks at the door really signal death to come?There were certain rules and regulations for mourning that developed during this culture of death. People in mourning could not attend societal functions, and were usually isolated. Widows wore black dresses and garments for up to two years after the loss of a husband. Wreaths woven from hair of the deceased memorialized loved ones, and were often displayed in the parlor for visitors to admire. Furthermore, these hair wreaths were a way of documenting family members like a family tree. Learn about superstitions and funeral customs by joining us on this fateful night. Paranormal Investigation

Before 1776, American music was British music &mdash; because America was British. But the Revolution didn&#39;t just create a new nation; it sparked the search for a new national identity, and music was at the heart of it! This talk traces how, in the decades following independence, a distinctly American musical style began to take shape &mdash; moving well beyond the familiar strains of Yankee Doodle to explore the songs, sounds, and traditions that newly minted Americans actually lived with. What did people sing at home, at church, at taverns, and in the streets as they figured out what did it mean to be American? About the speaker: Matt Hollis has an MA in Early American history and has a deep interest in music and its history. He has published an edited collection of Revolutionary Era correspondence of&nbsp;<a fr-original-style="" href="https://mcfarlandbooks.com/product/hero-of-fort-schuyler/?srsltid=AfmBOooS2dqXwK07fDtZqx4j91OoB4m20mT0dWdexZV39iEKe9j7RTaU" rel="noopener" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Brigadier General Peter Gansevoort, Jr.</a>, who defended Fort Schuyler from the British in 1777.
