Players Philanthropy Fund DBA The Sweat For Breath Foundation

The Sweat For Breath Foundation raises funds and awareness for ALK+ lung cancer, supporting research and patient programs to improve lives and combat stigma. Founded by a survivor, it aims for a future where lung cancer is manageable and curable.

**Total does not reflect amount raised offline** David&rsquo;s StoryDavid was diagnosed with Stage IV ALK+ lung cancer at 38 years old. &nbsp;His diagnosis was a complete surprise -- he is a never-smoker, former Division 1 athlete, and very healthy otherwise. David is married with two young kids (5 and 2 at the time of diagnosis). He&rsquo;s currently taking a drug approved only in 2021 as a first-line treatment for ALK+ lung cancer and is doing well. Sweat for Breath FoundationAfter being diagnosed, David became keenly aware that his treatment wouldn&#39;t be possible without the fundraising and awareness efforts of the patients before him. To support the next generation ALK+ lung cancer patients, David, and his wife Lisa, established the Sweat For Breath Foundation, operating through a fiscal sponsorship with Players Philanthropy Fund, a Texas nonprofit corporation recognized by IRS as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Federal Tax ID: 27-6601178,ppf.org/pp).&nbsp; MissionToday, the Sweat For Breath Foundation aims to extend and improve the lives of people with ALK+ lung cancer by raising funds for cutting-edge research and patient support programs and promoting awareness that anyone can get lung cancer and no one deserves to get lung cancer.&nbsp; Vision&nbsp;We envision a world where ALK+ lung cancer is a chronic or even curable condition and the next person diagnosed with lung cancer does not have to live under the current stigma. Our ImpactSince 2023, nearly 2,500 donors have given over $1.2 million towards the #SweatForBreath effort. Raising Funds for Research&nbsp;A majority of the proceeds have gone directly to The Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Center in Baltimore, MD to support Dr. Vincent Lam&rsquo;s ALK+ lung cancer research. This support provided the critical funding needed to launch and expand Dr. Lam&rsquo;s clinic trial, which is evaluating the safety of a cancer peptide vaccine to prevent or delay acquired resistance in advanced ALK+ lung cancer patients currently on ALK targeted therapy. Dr. Lam&rsquo;s vaccine is the first ALK+ vaccine in the world to be tested in a clinical trial. Dr. Lam administered the vaccine to the first patient in clinic on May 13, 2024! Too often, people assume lung cancer is something you cause &mdash; an implication that quietly assigns blame and shapes how patients are treated, supported, and funded. That misconception has contributed to years of underfunding and delayed research. We work to change that narrative by making it clear that anyone can get lung cancer and no one deserves it. By shifting public perception, we help open the door to earlier diagnoses, better support, and the research investment this community urgently needs.
