Our plans for our spring meeting are as follows:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">&bull; Who: Up to 15 people&bull; What: Making a basked from foraged bush honeysuckle bark&bull; Where: In the parking lot behind Mount Zion UMC, 1485 Craig Road, 63146&bull; When: Thursday afternoon at 2 pm on May 7, 2026, the bad weather alternate date is May 28, 2026.&nbsp;&bull; What to bring:&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; ◦ Camp chair and a bag for your harvested material.&nbsp; &nbsp; ◦ Tools, (Bring what you have and we can share)&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;◦ Camp knife (e.g. 4-6 inch blade, sharp and strong, steak knife would work);&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;◦ Tree saw;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;◦ Strong tablespoon and/or table knife (for prying up the bark).&nbsp;</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"> </li></ul>

Spring Basketry Gathering

Dogtown Ecovillage is collaborating with the St. Louis Zoo and Green Ribbon Gardens to host a presentation and potluck.&nbsp;Feb 22, 2026 at the StL ZooPresentation: Planting Starts with Prep: How to Prep your Site for a Successful Native Garden.Presenter: &nbsp;Deanna Douglas is a restoration coordinator at the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center where she works to restore and maintain native ecosystems and manage invasive species. She has her M.S. in Biology with a focus in ecology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and she is especially interested in insect host plant interactions and gardening with native plants. Outside of work, she volunteers with Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves, enjoys hiking, making pens from honeysuckle on her lathe, and spending time with friends and family.&nbsp; INFO:1. Bring a dish to share.2. The location will be Classroom #2 in the lower level of the Living World Building. This is located in the West corner. There is a set of glass doors leading to the space. For those who may prefer or require elevator access instead of stairs, the elevator is located to the right of the gift shop.3. Winter Basketry Gathering

Creating a living willow fence is an easy, inexpensive way to build a fence or screen. This skill-share is a small group opportunity to work with a seasoned gardener to build a living willow fence. Come in gardening clothes and bring gloves, a trowel, and hand-pruners if you have them.
