Lainey’s Fund was created in honor of an abused and neglected puppy that came from deplorable conditions. A hero saw her head peeking out of broken glass in an abandoned house and called law enforcement. Lainey ended up at a local shelter where she lived with a horrific leg injury and missing paw for weeks. In danger of euthanasia, Lainey's eyes, wagging tail and happy, gentle demeanor begged for a second chance, but she desperately needed an immediate, expensive amputation and other complex medical treatment to survive. Sailing and Saving Lives partnered with the shelter to provide the life saving care Lainey desperately needed. Her surgery was successful, and she went to a wonderful foster who was touched by her story and adopted her. Lainey is living her best life and so appreciative for a soft bed of her own, belly rubs, her forever home, and the second chance she never would have had! In honor of this brave girl and everyone involved in her rescue, we started Lainey’s fund to help cover the cost of complex medical needs and rehoming for deserving, adoptable dogs in shelters. The truth is shelters are at or beyond maximum capacity, and their resources are stretched extremely thin. They simply aren't able to properly treat animals with life threatening injuries or critical conditions. Sadly, the outcome for these dogs is almost always euthanasia. We have, therefore, made it our mission to give dogs like Lainey a second chance they wouldn't have otherwise, but these treatments are expensive and we desperately need help to make these miracles happen.
