About your donationAs a nonprofit scientific association, the Society for Freshwater Science relies heavily on donations from its members to maintain and grow key programs.Your donations to SFS Endowment Funds are primarily awarded to benefit students and early career members.Donations to SFS Endowment Funds reach far and wide:Endowments for Research AwardsSFS General Endowment Awards support aquatic research and travel by students and early career professionals.• SFS Boesel-Sanderson Fund, established in recognition of Marion Waterman Boesel and Milton W. Sanderson, supports student research on the natural history of organisms. SFS Simpson Fund, established in memory of Karl W. Simpson, supports student research on applied aquatic topics.SFS Systematics Fund supports expenses for aquatic taxonomy and systematics research for scientists at any career stage. SFS Conservation Fund supports graduate student research addressing endangered or threatened species or ecosystems or the conservation of biodiversity, aquatic species, or ecosystems.Endowments to support travel and participation in the SFS Annual MeetingSFS Americas Fund supports travel to the SFS meeting by students from Latin America. SFS Christy Fellows Fund, established in memory of Christine (Christy) Susan Fellows, supports travel to the SFS meeting by Australian students. SFS Petersen Fund, established in memory of Robert (Bob) Carl Petersen, provides travel awards for non-North American students. SFS Mulholland Fund for Biogeochemical Research, established in honor of Patrick (Pat) Mulholland, supports travel to the SFS meeting for students studying stream biogeochemistry. SFS Andy Sheldon Fund for Field Ecology in Streams, established in memory of Andy Sheldon, supports travel to the SFS Annual Meeting by students who are doing field-based research in stream population or community ecology. SFS Ruiter Fund, established in memory of David Ernest Ruiter, supports student presentations or travel to meetings.Endowment supporting publishing in the Society’s JournalSFS Journal Endowment Fund provides awards to authors to improve the quality, distribution, and access of scientific papers approved for publication in Freshwater Science.
