Street Theatre Company has always believed in producing bold and innovative work. Founder Cathy Street has written the book for a new musical and STC is proud to produce a staged reading of the work in progress as part of its development journey. My husband JJ says, &quot;Listen to this band, The War and Treaty, I think you will love them.&quot;The minute I heard their first song, I was enthralled. The more songs I listened to, a musical started forming that I couldn&rsquo;t ignore. I reached out to them with my idea to use their songs in writing a musical about hope, unity, perseverance and love and they gave me their blessing.Little did I know that what I wrote starting in 2020 as a &#39;slightly dystopian future&#39; would be coming frighteningly to life in 2026.And so here we are...a staged reading in Nashville - the city that was my home for 13 years. The city where I founded Street Theatre Company in 2006 - a company that is still thriving today under Artistic Director Randy Craft. And with the help of Randy and so many others, we will get to see and hear the piece performed by some O.G. STC performers as well as new faces!With so many of us feeling more isolated than ever, I think the time is now for this musical that speaks to the power of community and connection.&nbsp;I can&#39;t wait to share it with you!&nbsp; SYNOPSIS:THE TIDE takes place in a town where fear is pervasive, art and creative expression are restricted, interpersonal connections are limited, and activities are monitored and suppressed by the government. &nbsp;A young man, Marcus, has come back from fighting a war overseas and finds his own country has become nearly unrecognizable. His father has been fired from his job as a college professor for defying censorship, his mother hides in fear, and his brother works for the very government that is controlling the community in a test program, The Project. &nbsp;Marcus meets the strong, passionate woman Faith who is part of The Movement, an underground group that refuses to give up on the idea of joy, love, and freedom. In the face of seemingly insurmountable opposition, Faith, Marcus, and their revolutionary allies will have to work together to spread their message to others to stop The Project from growing to global power.
