Sustainable Ballard

Sustainable Ballard fosters community-driven sustainability initiatives in Ballard, Seattle. They promote local food systems, environmental stewardship, and social equity to create a resilient, eco-friendly neighborhood for all residents.

Every 3rd Thursday we will be screening a documentary related to sustainability at the Center for Spiritual Living Ballard. In July, we will be showing&nbsp;Earth&#39;s Greatest Enemy, a groundbreaking anti-imperialist environmental documentary. Exempt from international climate agreements and rarely scrutinized in mainstream reporting, the Pentagon is the world&rsquo;s single largest institutional polluter&mdash;spewing carbon, contaminating water, and scarring landscapes across the globe. Combining investigative journalism, striking visuals, and stories from impacted communities, this film challenges audiences to rethink the hidden costs of a global military empire and its planetary consequences. Provocative, urgent, and eye-opening, this is a documentary that will change how you see both the military and environmentalism. Join us for a fun walking or biking tour of neighborhood gardens, planting strips, containers, raised beds, and all sorts of creative edibles from fruit trees to berries to veggies galore. Plan to spend a day walking or biking through Ballard to discover how your neighbors raise urban fruits and vegetables. Gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions. If you&rsquo;re new to gardening, we hope that you can join us to see what other gardeners in the neighborhood are doing and get some tips! This year&#39;s tour will be located in Southeast Ballard. The tour is self-guided. Join Ballard Knitters for the Homeless the 2nd Tuesday of every month to gather together to help make our community a little bit warmer (in a good way!). We knit hats and scarves for those in need while enjoying creative community. New to knitting? No problem. There are helpful experts on hand to get you casting on in no time. Already and expert? Come hang out with other talented Knitters and enjoy some socializing. Old Stove Gardens is a beautiful space indoors and out. They have delicious food and all types of beverages including non-alcoholic.

In September, we will be showing&nbsp;Ultimate Citizens, the story of Jamshid Khajavi, an extraordinary 65-year-old Iranian American public school counselor who uses the sport of Ultimate Frisbee to help children heal. The story is centered around a program at Hazel Wolf school in Seattle.&nbsp;In an America where many families are quietly, barely getting by, Mr. Jamshid coaches an underdog team of kids on their way to compete in the world&rsquo;s largest youth tournament.
